How I Grew My Passion for Web Development
I have always been one who is known to have a curious mind when it comes to how things work. Because of this fact, I delved into trying to find out how and what makes websites and mobile application work. How it is being compiled to render on browsers and what it takes to learn how to fix broken applications.
I got a job as a Junior IT Consultant in a firm back in Nigeria and before that, I had no idea about what it takes to build web applications. My boss at that time was my mentor and I remember all the things he taught me as regards Information Technology, the times we spent talking about how to learn new and emerging programming languages and so on. My boss was the first person to introduce me to learn HTML and CSS. That was the foundation of my current programming skill. He gave me some very important videos materials to learn how to build static web pages.
So, I pushed myself as well by creating the time to watch the videos and practice the exercise that I learnt. I spent hours trying to get the grasp of all the terminologies and syntaxes used in programming HTML and CSS. When my Boss saw that I was confident in handling simple to complex codes, he then tested me with real life work environment applications. I only handled front end applications at that time because I had not equipped myself with the knowledge of handling backend programming languages.
I mingled with people who were passionate about programming. I joined forums and downloaded a lot of tutorials that had various concepts of designing web applications. It has been a continuous learning exercise. One that is priceless because the knowledge gained from the sacrifice has helped me make a good living from creating web applications.
